This day you will travel to Valparaiso where you see the colorful houses on the surrounding hills. Valparaíso, an iconic coastal town instantly recognizable for the vividly painted houses that line the hillside. This bohemian (and colorful) corner of Valparaíso has actually been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many artists, musicians, and poets. Valparaíso forms a natural amphitheater facing the sea where most of the city hangs from the hills in a chaotic harmony. Its tangible and intangible heritage is embodied in customs and traditions of the “porteño” (inhabitant of Valparaíso) lifestyle. You will visit great architectural and historical attractions including Alegre and Concepción hills with their strolls and viewpoints. They are full of stories of foreign immigrants that arrived in Valparaíso when this important Port was considered “The Jewel of The Pacific Ocean” (before the Panamá Canal). You will see Sotomayor square and the history of its heroes at Muelle Prat, then continue to the historic port town declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
