JOURNEY TO THE SOUTH OF CHILE – PATAGONIA

DAY 1 ARRIVAL SANTIAGO, CHILE

Once you arrive in Santiago, Chile, we’ll go explore the city together. You’ll get to see Plaza de Armas, a famous square in the heart of Santiago, the historic Cathedral, the Post Office building, and La Moneda Palace. We will also go to the Paris-London district and see the historic San Francisco church. And, at the end of our trip, we’ll take the cable car to the top of the 850m San Cristobal hill for beautiful panoramic views of the city and the Andes.

DAY 2  VALPARAISO

On the second day of your adventure,  you will travel towards Valparaiso. There, you’ll find colorful houses on the surrounding hills of this charming, quaint coastal town. You’ll also visit many architectural and historical sites in the area, including Alegre and Concepción hills. After exploring, you’ll enjoy lunch in a restaurant that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Then, we’ll head back to Santiago as a group.

DAY 3 SANTIAGO, CHILE – PUERTO NATALES

In the morning, we’ll travel to the airport and fly into Puerto Natales. This city is located on the bay of Last Hope or “Ultima Esperanza” and is the gateway to the incredible Torres del Paine National Park. We’ll take you to the hotel for a restful night’s sleep so you can wake up bright and early and explore the park.

DAY 4 TORRES DEL PAINE NP

On day four, Torres del Paine National Park (and its many wonders!) awaits you. This park is considered the most beautiful mountain national park of the South American continent. It  has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and according to National Geographic, it is the fifth most beautiful place in the world. Named the Eighth Miracle of Nature, it delights every visitor.

On the way to the park, we’ll  stop to  visit  Cueva del Milodon, the cave where the remains of the extinct giant sloth, Mylodon Darwini, were discovered. We’ll also pause to see the beautiful lake, Lago Nordenskjold, and Lago Pehoe, which overlooks the majestic Cuernos del Paine and Mount Paine Grande. Then, we’ll trek to the Cuernos del Paine viewpoint to see the massif. At each stop (and in between), keep your eyes peeled for herds of guanacos, soaring condors, and pumas. You’ll end the day with a comfortable overnight stay back at the hotel in Puerto Natales.

DAY 5 TORRES DEL PAINE NP – GREY GLACIER

In the morning, we will depart for a boat  trip to see the Grey Glacier. First, we will check in at the Hosteria Grey. Then, we’ll walk down a pretty pebbly beach to board our boat, the Grey III.

As we sail, you’ll enjoy an unparalleled landscape composed of floating icebergs, lush vegetation, and magnificent mountains. We’ll disembark once we arrive at Refugio Grey and take a short walk to a fabulous viewpoint on Grey Glacier. You’ll enjoy lunch while you take in the landscapes. Then, we’ll head back to Refugio Grey, and we’ll navigate back to Grey Beach and Hosteria Grey before returning to the hotel in Puerto Natales.

DAY 6 BASE LAS TORRES

Today we will face a demanding trail to one of the most important places in the Torres del Paine National Park,  Base las Torres. We will start our journey up from Hosteria las Torres. We will overcome Valle Ascencio and cross the Ascencio River. Panoramic views of the pampas, lakes, and the valley itself will reward us as we take a 2.5 kilometer  walk up the gusty wind. The trail then descends to Refugio El Chileno. The vegetation here corresponds to the Pre-Andean matorral, then quickly changes to forest. The last step is the hardest. It runs 0.8 km, takes about 45 minutes, and takes you to the Las Torres viewpoint where you’ll be able to see three giant granite towers. After a rest,  we’ll head  towards Hosteria Las Torres and return to Puerto Natales.

DAY 7 BALMACEDA & SERRANO GLACIER

In the morning, we’ll travel to Puerto Bories and take a boat to Bernardo O’Higgins National Park, known for its incredible fjords. We’ll observe native wildlife, visit the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers, and enjoy a delicious whiskey with millennial ice on our way through the Ultima Esperanza. Then, you’ll enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Puerto Natales.

DAY 8 PUERTO NATALES – PUNTA ARENAS

Spend your morning shopping and buying your final souvenirs in Puerto Natales. Afterwards, we’ll travel towards the Punta Arenas, where you’ll have time for leisure and enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 9 WHALE WATCHING

On day nine, we’ll get a very early start. We’ll meet at 4:00AM and take a bus to our embarkation point, just south of Punta Arenas. From there, you’ll enjoy ten hours of amazing navigation that make the early wakeup call worthwhile. On this unmissable journey, you’ll enjoy a unique landscape comprised of mountains, glaciers, and forests featuring lengas and coihues. And, if you watch carefully, you may spot sea lions, petrels, cormorants, southern dolphins, toninas overas, Magellanic penguins, humpback whales, and Sei whales. After this exciting day, we’ll head back to Punta Arenas for an overnight hotel stay.

DAY 10 TIERRA DEL FUEGO

After breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport to board a flight for Porvenir. Upon arrival, we’ll start our journey through the amazing landscapes of wild, beautiful Tierra del Fuego, the Land of Fire. We’ll take a short walk to admire the extraordinary landscape of Laguna de los Cisnes, which features exotic limestone-stromatolite formations. Then, we’ll travel to Estancia Onaisin and the King Penguin Natural Reserve. There, you’ll spend an hour observing this fascinating sub-Antarctic bird. Then, we’ll travel alongside Bahia Inutil to Porvenir Airport for our flight back to Punta Arenas. We’ll transport you to the hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 11  PUNTA ARENAS – SANTIAGO, CHILE- CAJON DEL MAIPO

It’s time to say goodbye to the wonders of the South. We’ll take you to the airport at Punta Arenas, and you’ll fly back to Santiago, Chile. Upon arrival, you’ll travel toward the spectacular Andes and the Cajon del Maipo, a mountain valley surrounded by majestic peaks. Afterwards, you’ll have time for leisure and spend a cozy night in the lodge.

DAY 12  CAJON DEL MAIPO

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will go on a trip to Cajon del Maipo,  a canyon located in the southeastern part of the Andes metropolitan region. During the trip, we will visit the colonial-style town of San José de Maipo. Then, we’ll continue our  trip to the majestic Andean mountain range. On the way, we will see the abandoned military shelters of Refugio Militar before

l reaching Embalse del Yeso, located at  2500m above sea level. At Yeso Reservoir, you’ll view the majestic Andes and the turquoise water while enjoying a glass of Chilean wine. Then, we’ll return to Santiago to settle in for the night.

DAY 13  DEPARTURE SANTIAGO, CHILE

Even the greatest adventures have to come to an end. On our last day, you will bid a fond farewell to Chile before heading to the airport. However, the memories you’ve made and the sites you’ve seen will live on in your heart indefinitely.
